In 1974, Muhammad Ali trained for sixteen weeks in the Pennsylvania Mountains in preparation for the Rumble in the Jungle, his historic heavyweight title fight against George Foreman in Zaire. These photographs were taken by David King during that training session and appeared in his 1975 photographic biography of Ali I Am King. See more of his photos below the cut. These are awesome in every way.

Shit Worth Checking Out: What is the most epic photo ever taken?
Quora has an amazing thread right now featuring the attempt to find the 'most epic photo ever taken'. Right now, there are over 50 photos posted, most with accompanying stories (my choice for title photo was based at least in part on it needing no such description). Some of the pics submitted are quite epic indeed. Many are also highly disturbing, and I thus hesitate to designate the photographs I have picked out as my "favourites", so I will instead refer you to some of the best, or most intriguing, photographs after the jump. Which gets your vote?

Shit You Should Buy: New edition of Cannes Cinema: A Visual History.
A new edition of Cannes Cinema: A Visual History of the World's Greatest Film Festival will be released next week, just in time for this year's 64th Cannes Film Festival. The book includes over 550 photographs by the Traverso family, a local family of photographers who have been photographing the event since its inception in 1939, and text by Serge Toubian. You can grab it on Amazon
, but only the paperback edition is available. This feels like a book where a paperback edition simply won't do, so head over to Phaidon and shell out a couple more ducats for the hardcover. I'll definitely be grabbing this one when it's released. The perfect coffee table book; one you can glance through with a scotch in one hand and a woman you're pretending to pay attention to in the other.

Shit Worth Checking Out: Pics from the Ralph Lauren car collection exhibition launch dinner..
Last week I posted a clip promoting the Musée des Arts Décoratifs exhibition The Art of the Automobile: Masterpieces from the Ralph Lauren Collection. This past Wednesday, Madame Hélène David-Weill and Ralph Lauren hosted a private dinner in Paris to celebrate the opening of this exhibit. While the pics are primarily posed, which makes them much less interesting than if they were taken naturally, it's still worth a quick look (if only to see Jean Reno, who was in attendance). Check them out below the cut.

Shit Worth Checking Out: H by Hudson Autumn 2011 campaign pics.
Another brand I must admit to just becoming aware of is H by Hudson. Looking at their Autumn 2011 campaign pics, aside from their choice of some fucking creepy-looking models, it looks like a pretty decent offering. Check out more from the "Home is Where my Shoes Are" look book after the jump.

Shit Worth Checking Out: Filippa K S/S 2011 campaign pics.
Filippa K is a brand I must admit not having been aware of until very recently. They have a classic, somewhat rugged American style that I like. For those who are as yet unaware of its existence, these pics should convince you of its deserving a place on your radar.

January Jones on her role in Mad Men: originally, there wasn't going to be a Mrs. Draper.
In her recent interview with W Magazine, January Jones said that, originally, Mad Men wasn't going to show any of Don Draper's home life - the role of Betty Draper was created specifically for her after she auditioned for the role of Peggy:
"There was no Betty in the pilot when I auditioned. Matthew Weiner, the creator of the show, had no intention of showing Don Draper’s home life. I read for Peggy two times—it was between me and Elisabeth Moss, who eventually got the part. At the end of the scene, there was a casual mention that Don was married. Matt went home that night and wrote two scenes that featured Betty. I auditioned a couple of days later, and he made me a verbal promise that the character would grow. I took the part on faith—there was no script or fleshed-out character or Betty plotline."

Shit Worth Checking Out: GQ's Tommy Ton's photo collection from the recent Paris women's shows
Great collection of pictures showing off an eclectic array of male style. Not everything works, but that's in part what makes checking these out so interesting. These are real people, each with their own diverse personal style.

Shit Worth Checking Out: The Selvedge Yard's piece on George Stevens's classic film, Giant.
A few months back, The Selvedge Yard published a visual essay on the making of the 1956 film Giant
. The film featured an incredible cast, including James Dean, Rock Hudson, and Elizabeth Taylor, and was a sweeping family epic of the type they just don't make anymore. The article features some amazing photography from the set and the film itself, as well as many great anecdotes about the trials and tribulations of production. Check out the post here. More photos from the article after the jump.
Photos from the Sharp S/S Book for Men launch party in Toronto.
On April 5, 2011, Sharp Magazine for Men held a launch party for its new Spring / Summer edition of Sharp: The Book for Men. The party took place at Origin in Toronto, and sponsors included Grey Goose, Glenlivet, and Peroni. Check out more photos after the jump.
Shit You Should Buy: Michael J. Fox Dog Tags by Ralph Lauren.

| Michael J. Fox Dog Tags |
February is Parkinson's Awareness Month, and last night at the Ralph Lauren Men's store on Madison Avenue, Michael J. Fox hosted a celebrity charity event to benefit The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. On sale at the event were these limited edition dog tags, which are now available on the Ralph Lauren website for just $95.00. I'm breaking my 'No Polo' rule for this, but 100% of the net proceeds will go to the MJFF, so I don't feel too badly about it.

Official poster for 64th annual Cannes Film Festival exudes elegance.
![]() |
They don't make 'em like this anymore. Actresses, I mean. Which is probably why the designers of this beautiful poster had to reach back some forty years for this great shot of Faye Dunaway, circa 1970, courtesy of Jerry Schatzberg. "Model of sophistication and timeless elegance, it is an embodiment of the cinematic dream that the Festival de Cannes seeks to maintain." Check out the official Cannes Film Festival site for more.
